BOSTON CENTERS FOR YOUTH & FAMILIES INVITES YOUTH TO SAFETY NIGHTS - US Fed News Service, Including US State News

The office of the Boston Mayor issued the following press release: Responding to the concerns of young people looking for a safe place to go late on Friday and Saturday nights, Boston Centers for Youth & Families, working with community partners, is hosting a series of 'Safety Nights.'

Supported by the Mass Service Alliance, Safety Nights will give young people a safe place to go between 8:00 pm and 12:00 midnight for a variety of fun, structured activities such as movies, dancing, job skills training, sports and discussions as well as referral services for employment and training opportunities, counseling and resources.

'Mayor Menino has made a commitment to Boston's young people to keep community centers open later,' said Robert Lewis, Jr., Executive Director of Boston Centers for Youth & Families. 'I am thankful that several agencies have joined us in sponsoring safety nights because the city really needs the help of our partners in making sure that all young people have a safe place to go and have fun.'

Safety Nights kicked off June 30th at the Dorchester Boys and Girls Club on Blue Hill Avenue. The schedule and location of additional safety nights scheduled to date include:

Friday, July 14 Roxbury YMCA (Open Gym/Pool,) 285 MLK Blvd. Friday, July 21 South End Salvation Army, 1500 Washington Street. Friday, July 28 Mildred Avenue Community Center (Family Night) Pool Party, 5 Mildred Avenue, Mattapan. Friday, August 4 Grove Hall Community Center, 48 Geneva Avenue, Dorchester. Friday, August 11 East Boston (location TBD.) Friday, August 18 Perkins Community Center, 155 Talbot Avenue, Dorchester. Saturday, August 19 Hennigan Community Center, 200 Heath Street, Jamaica Plain. Friday, August 25 Clougherty Pool, Bunker Hill Street, Charlestown. Saturday, August 26 Tobin Community Center, 1483 Tremont Street, Mission Hill.
